Ok, if you've read my first post (ever) I said that Don Cherry made the prediction that the Leafs netminder Joey Macdonald was going to turn into a solid presence between the pipes for the Blue & White. Well, Cherry's train keeps rolling as Macdonald looked great in a 6-3 thumping of the Blue Jackets last night in Columbus.
The Toronto Sun reported that before the game, Jackets head coach Ken Hitchcock said that the Leafs looked great checking-wise, citing the Sharks play under head coach Ron Wilson a couple years ago. This was said BEFORE the game.
Poor Hitchcock, and Jackets faithful, then had to sit through another perfect road game by the Buds as they went on to cruise to a 6-3 win. Phil Kessel again played like Leaf god, along with Jason Blake, who finally broke out of a brutal goal-less drought. Both players poured in two goals, with Blakey grabbing first star and Kessel the second.
Up next is the defensive power-house Bruins on Saturday. This is a HUGE divisional game for the Leafs and will be the first of six against Beantown this year. Let's hope they'll keep the ball rolling.
--------
- The Leafs now sit 3 points back of Montreal with a game in hand, and actually have 2 less in the loss column. I can imagine Leafs fans all across the continent are soon going to be letting Habs fans have an earful in retaliation for the early season debacle we all had to live through. Flame on Buds fans.
- Toronto sits 6 points back of the 8th place Islanders, with a game in hand.
- Kessel now has 10 goals in 15 games as one of our own.
- Last night Jason Blake scored his first even-strength goal since last season. Phew.
